And so it begins. Oregon's first spring football practice is just about to get underway from the Moshofsky Center, and there are a few new (and old) faces to tell you about.
While the Ducks don't have any early arrivals from the prep ranks like the past two seasons - D.J. Davis in 2007, John Boyett, Darron Thomas and Chris Harper last year - there is a quartet of junior college transfers, four new walk-ons and one 2008 signee who delayed enrollment.
From the JC ranks, UO welcomes defensive end Zac Clark, linebacker Bryson Littlejohn, defensive tackle Terrance Montgomery and wide receiver Lavasier Tuiniei (pronounced luh-VAH-she-ay TOO-in-ay). Tuinei, like Jeremiah Masoli was last year, is a true sophomore, having played only one year of junior college football.
Also making his Oregon practice debut is wide receiver Blake Cantu. One of the Ducks' top recruits in 2008, Cantu delayed enrollment will he rehabilitated from shoulder surgery.
The spring walk-ons are all in-state students. Defensive back Matt Anderson (Aurora/Southridge), linebacker Nick Musgrove (Eugene/Churchill), offensive lineman Russell Smith (Canby/Canby) and wide receiver Mike Thompson (Beaverton/Southridge) will all get a look during Oregon's 15 scheduled workouts.
Long snapper Sam Doman, center Justin Fritz and offensive lineman Bill Haskins are all past squad members who have returned to the fold.
