DuPONT, Wash., -- Oregon's Robbie Ziegler and Eric Grimberg shot below par rounds on Tuesday to advance to match play at the 108th Pacific Northwest Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship, being contested at the Home Course.
Ziegler, a freshman from Canby, Ore., was tied for eighth at 2-under 142 after shooting a 69 Tuesday. Grimberg was tied for 18th at even par following his 71 in the second round.
Ziegler will be the No. 8 seed for match play, which starts Wednesday. He will face No. 57 Austin Hurt of Bainbridge Island, Wash., beginning at 7:32 a.m. Hurt, a junior at Washington State, won the Washington Men's Amateur championship last month at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. Grimberg, the No. 18 seed, will square off against former Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash., at 9:32 a.m.
Also Tuesday, freshman John Paton carded a 76 and finished tied for 98th at 9-over 153.
Tyler Matthews of Redmond, Wash., shot his second consecutive round of 69 to finish at 6-under 138 and earn the top seed for match play.
