CORVALLIS, Ore. – Rob Folsom’s walkoff RBI double to center completed Oregon State’s Pac-10 series sweep of No. 15 Oregon on Sunday at Goss Stadium as the Beavers defeated the Ducks 6-5.

The Ducks erased a four-run deficit in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5, but Oregon reliever Drew Gagnier surrendered the walkoff double to Folsom that scored Stephen Romero to end the game in the bottom of the inning.

The Ducks are now on a season-long four-game losing streak and fall to sixth in the Pac-10 standings with a record of 30-18 overall and 10-11 in the league standings.

Oregon State is now 24-17 overall and 7-11 in Pac-10 play.

Gagnier walked Dylan Jones to lead off the bottom of the ninth, and then Romero singled to right to put runners on first and second. Andy Quiring’s fielder’s choice bunt erased Jones at third, but Folsom’s double over the head of UO center fielder Jett Hart brought Romero home for the game-winning run.

Gagnier took the loss for Oregon after surrendering one run on two hits and one walk in 2/3 of an inning on the mound.
Oregon State starter Sam Gaviglio held the Ducks to one-run through eight innings and looked to be in line for a complete game win before he ran into trouble in the top of the ninth.

Gaviglio surrendered back-to-back singles to Danny Pulfer and Eddie Rodriguez, and an error on Romero at third loaded the bases with Steven Packard on first.  Jack Marder put the ball in play and shortstop Carter Bell attempted to get the out at second, but his throw was late as Pulfer scored and the bases remained loaded with no outs.

Gaviglio struck out Paul Eshleman, but Shawn Peterson pinch hit and lined a RBI single to right scoring Rodriguez as the Ducks came within 5-3. A base running error on the play erased Packard at third as the Ducks were left with Jett Hart – pinch running for Marder  - at third, – and Mendenhall – pinch running for Peterson, at first.

Curtis Raulinaitis’ infield single plated Hart to bring the Ducks within 5-4, and a throwing error on Bell allowed Mendenhall to move to third, setting up KC Serna’s RBI single to right that tied the score. OSU lefty Matt Boyd then came on to retire Nick Wagner to send the game into the bottom of the ninth.

Gaviglio tossed eight and 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three. At one point Gaviglio retired 10 consecutive batters.

Boyd improved to 6-1 after getting the final out of the top of the ninth.

OSU tallied 14 hits on the day including solo home runs in the eighth inning from Jared Norris and Bell.

Jones was 3-for-3 with a RBI and run scored, while Folsom was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Bell finished his afternoon 3-for-4, while Norris was 2-for-4.

Serna led the Ducks with 3-for-4 effort including a RBI and run scored. Pulfer and Raulinaitis also had multiple hit games with two hits apiece.

Oregon starter Zack Thornton lasted five innings allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two. Scott McGough also appeared in relief.
