IRVINE, Calif. – Oregon junior left-hander Tyler Anderson was named to the 11th annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason All-America second team, it was announced today.

The Las Vegas native will return to the diamond this spring after a very successful sophomore campaign in which he became the first Oregon player since 1971 to be named to the Pac-10 All-Conference team.

The southpaw finished the 2010 season with a 7-5 record on the mound and a staff-leading 2.98 ERA (5th Pac-10), while leading the Ducks with 102 and 2/3 innings on the mound and recording out a staff-best 105 strikeouts (6th Pac-10).

Anderson held opposing batters to a .219 clip (6th Pac-10), and his 7.36 hits allowed per nine innings ranked 34th in the country.

His season highlights included pitching 5 and 2/3 innings on the mound, and surrendering three runs on four hits and three walks while also striking out three on 87 pitches in UO’s 7-3 upset of then No. 4 Cal State Fullerton on opening day.

Anderson also earned three consecutive wins in series-opening starts against Fresno State, Seattle and Nevada, stringing together a 21-inning scoreless streak during that stretch.

He earned an undeserved loss in arguably his best performance of the season after tossing a one-run complete game against then No. 1 Arizona State.

He went on to record Pac-10 victories over then No. 22 Stanford and USC during the year.

Anderson’s success was a big reason the Ducks reached the NCAA Regional Final last season in the program’s second year back from reinstatement.

Oregon finished the season with a 40-24 record and tied for fifth in the Pac-10 standings, while finishing the year ranked in four out of five national polls.

Anderson’s triumphs on the mound also earned him a spot on the 2010 Collegiate National Team, which took home the silver medal at the FISU World Championships. The CNT finished its summer with a record of 16-3, while Anderson was 1-0 on the mound with a 0.00 ERA in three starts. He pitched in two combined shutouts, and in 16 total innings, allowing just six hits and three walks while striking out 14.

Anderson was also recently rated by Baseball America as the No. 8 prospect from the 2010 Collegiate National Team.

The makeup of the 11th annual preseason All-America squad includes student-athletes from 17 different conferences and 37 different programs.

Oregon opens the 2011 season on the road at Hawai’i with a four-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 18. The Ducks will play their home opener at PK Park hosting a three-game series with Saint Mary's beginning Friday, Feb. 25.
