The Wallace Award recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on June 30 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions.
The Newport Beach, Calif., has missed Oregon’s last 10 games with a shoulder injury, but prior to that was batting .263 on the season with nine doubles, one triple and five home runs. The UO leadoff hitter also leads the Ducks with 14 multiple-hit games.
After playing his first two seasons at third base for Oregon, Altobelli made the move to shortstop as a junior. He is managing a .976 fielding percentage and has helped turn 26 of Oregon’s 35 double plays.
The Pac-12 and the Southeastern Conference lead the pack with seven players each on the list.
No. 10 Oregon returns to the field at 6 p.m. Friday night at No. 11 Arizona. The Ducks currently have a half-game lead on the Wildcats in the Pac-12 standings.
