TUCSON, Ariz. – Oregon right-hander Jake Reed was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, it was announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Wednesday.

Reed, who was named to the Eugene All-Regional team last Sunday, enters this weekend with a 2.93 ERA and 7-4 record.

He is expected to start on Sunday as the Ducks will host Kent State in a Super Regional at PK Park.

Oregon’s Saturday starter for the 2012 season, the La Mesa, Calif., native was named Pac-12 All-Conference honorable mention last week.

Reed’s 107 and 1/3 innings pitched are the most of any rookie in UO baseball history, and he has struck out 61 batters this season, while holding opponents to a .232 clip.

In his first postseason appearance for Oregon last Sunday, Reed was brilliant from the start as the Ducks topped Austin Peay, 8-1, for a Super Regional berth. Reed allowed just two hits over seven shutout innings with a career-high eight strikeouts.

Reed leads Oregon with 14 quality starts. His season highlights include series-clinching wins over Vanderbilt, Arizona State, UCLA, Stanford, California and USC.
