Oregon Head Coach George Horton

Opening Statement…

“First off I’d like to be one of the first besides their fans to congratulate Coach Stricklin, his coaching staff and his players. We were up against a formidable team and each game came down to only one run.”

“We are wounded warriors right now.”

“It came down to they executed better than we did and that’s a tough pill to swallow, but I have to tip my cap off to them.”

On the College World Series…

“I will be back there with a Duck baseball team. I’m going back to the College World Series or it’s going to kill me.”

On how the team will take the loss…

“Some of the guys will let it go sooner than others. Tonight there will be lots of crying, hugs and devastation in our debriefing tonight.”

On the loss…

“Are we devasted? Of course. Am I proud? Absolutely. Are we satisfied? Absolutely not.  They’ve had to overcome so much this year with injuries and adversities. One run games have been the silver lining of the 2012 season, which is ironic that we lost two one run games in this series.”

On the final play of the game…

“J.J. (Altobelli) and I both gave it our all, but he (the batter) found the hole. I bet he couldn’t hit that spot if you gave him 100 tries, but that’s just baseball, sometimes you find the right spot. I read J.J. and saw where we was running and thought he was going to there, but unfortunately he didn’t. It’s unreal.”

On the game…

“That team (Kent State) is a great ball club. I will root for them in the College World Series. I can hold my head high knowing that I did everything I could.”

On Coach Horton…

“He has made me a better person. He has strived to make me a better person before a better baseball player, more so than anyone else in my life.”

On Coach Horton…

“Coming from a close knit family when I went away to college I wanted to commit to someone personable and Coach George is very personable. He teaches you life lessons and about being a better person.”

On the loss…

“We will all walk out of here proud with our heads held high, but not one of us is satisfied.”
