Selected in the 17th round (523 overall) by the Detroit Tigers in the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Following two seasons on the mound at Oregon, Drew Gagnier was selected in the 17th round (523 overall) by the Detroit Tigers in the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

A 2009 Pac-10 honorable mention selection, Gagnier was Oregon’s closer in 2009 with a staff-best seven saves. Entering the 2010 season, Gagnier was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List.

As a redshirt junior, Gagnier finished 2010 with a 0-2 record, 3.18 ERA and four saves. He made 23 appearances for the Ducks and tossed 22 and 2/3 innings, while striking out 25 and holding opposing batters to a .247 clip. During two seasons with the Ducks, Gagnier made 46 appearances on the mound.

For his career, the right-hander posted a 3.08 ERA and 1-2 record in 52 and 2/3 innings. His 11 career saves are an Oregon program record, while the native of Santa Cruz, Calif., also totaled 55 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .186 clip.

As a redshirt junior, finished 2010 with a 3.18 ERA, 0-2 record and four saves…tossed 22 and 2/3 innings in 23 appearances and struck out 25 while holding opposing batters to a .247 clip…season highlights included tossing one and 1/3 innings of shutout relief while striking out two and picking up the save in a 3-0 victory over Hawai’i (02/28)…tossed two innings of shutout relief and struck out two to earn the save in UO’s 8-4 victory at Fresno State (03/06)…tossed one inning of shutout relief and picked up a save as Oregon defeated Nevada 5-2 (03/20)…in Oregon’s series clinching 9-6 victory at No. 22 Stanford, tossed one shutout inning of relief and struck out one to earn his fourth save of the year, marking the first time since reinstatement that the Ducks won a Pac-10 series on the road (04/10).

Selected in the 14th round (423 overall) by the Oakland Athletics.

Oregon’s closer, appeared in 23 games and was named Pac-10 Honorable Mention...finished the year with a 2.70 ERA and 1-0 record in 30 innings pitched...tallied seven saves finishing the regular season tied for sixth in the Pac-10...with runners on, held opponents to a .217 average, and held leadoff batters to a .184 clip...earned his first save of the season tossing the final inning of Oregon’s historic 5-3 victory over Saint Mary’s (2/20)...his second historic appearance came on March 28 at PGE Park, as the Ducks defeated Oregon State, 3-2, in a 10-inning thriller...earned his first win of the season after pitching the final two innings of the OSU game and holding the Beavers scoreless while striking out the side in the top of the 10th to set up Oregon’s game winner...pitched 4 and 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, holding Santa Clara hitless as the Ducks eventually won 3-2 in 13 innings (3/7)...earned saves by tossing the final innings and holding opponents scoreless in wins over Nevada (3/14), Washington (3/21) and Sacramento State (3/25)...earned his fifth save of 2009 after helping the Ducks to their first home Pac-10 victory by holding Stanford hitless in 1 and 1/3 innings during a 2-1 victory (4/3)...held Cal scoreless for an inning to earn his sixth save during Oregon’s 5-3 win at California (4/18)...his seventh save of the season came after an inning of work in a 3-2 victory over UCLA (5/1)...made his only start of the year pitching 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four in a 5-2 loss to Arizona (5/23).

Attended Fresno State for the 2006-07 academic year and made 14 appearances during the 2007 season...transferred to Oregon for the 2007-08 academic year and redshirted...during the summer of 2008 played for Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Baseball League...pitched in a combined no-hitter, tossing seven innings and allowing no hits in his effort.

A 2006 graduate of Santa Cruz High School (Calif.)...was a four-year letterwinner in baseball...earned first-team all-league outfielder won SCCAL championship in 2006...also CIF Division III Champions in 2003.

Born Sept. 21, 1988 in Santa Cruz, Calif...parents are Jean and Martha Gagnier...majoring in Lauren played baseball for current Oregon head coach George Horton at Cal State Fullerton from 2004-06...Lauren currently plays in the Detroit Tigers minor league system.
