CAREER SUMMARY
Zack Thornton was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 23rd round (695 overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

Thornton struggled with an injury as a junior in 2009, and made just one appearance for the Ducks, but returned to the mound 100 percent healthy for his senior season. The Oak Park, Calif., native was a key reason for UO’s NCAA Regional berth.

Thornton finished his senior year with a record of 9-0, and his win total currently ties for the Oregon single-season record. He was named Pac-10 honorable mention after posting a 3.40 ERA in 12 starts and 17 appearances, while pitching a total of 90 innings and dealing 73 strikeouts.

The Ducks’ won five Pac-10 series during 2010, and Thornton was credited with the win in four of the series-clinching victories.

AS A SENIOR 2010
Earned Pac-10 honorable mention accolades after finishing his senior campaign with a 9-0 record on the mound…sported a 3.40 ERA in 17 appearances, 12 starts and 90 innings pitched…stuck out 73 and issued 16 walks…in Pac-10 play was 6-0 on the mound in nine appearances and four starts…sported a 2.30 ERA and held opposing batters to a .236 clip in league games…season highlights included tossing three shutout innings of relief, and striking out four before being credited with the win in Oregon’s 6-5 upset of then No. 1 Arizona State on April 2…also pitched 4 and 2/3 innings of one-run relief while striking out four in Oregon’s series-clinching 9-6 upset of then No. 22 Stanford…was also credited with the win in Oregon’s series-clinching 6-1 victory over Washington State after holding the Cougars to one run on four hits while striking out six in six innings of work…helped Oregon to another series-clinching victory, and was credited with the win after allowing just one unearned run in 7 and 2/3 innings on the mound while striking out four in a 5-2 win at Washington on May 23…in his last appearance in an Oregon uniform, helped the Ducks win their first game of the Norwich Regional in a 5-3 victory over No. 2 seed, host and 17th-ranked Connecticut…in six innings on the mound against the Huskies, scattered eight hits and allowed two runs – only one earned – while striking out six…other wins included tossing 5 and 2/3 shutout innings and striking out six as Oregon defeated Hawai’i 3-0 (02/28)…struck out 10 and allowed two runs in seven and 2/3 innings of work in a 7-3 victory over Seattle (03/13)…in a series-clinching victory over USC, tossed seven shutout innings of relief, scattering five hits and striking out seven in UO’s 8-4 win (04/25).

AS A JUNIOR • 2009
A shoulder injury slowed his start to the season...finished the year with an 0-1 record and 6.17 ERA, appearing in 15 games and pitching a total of 23 and 1/3 innings...recorded 16 strikeouts...with two outs, held batters to a .154 clip...made his first appearance on March 21, tossing one inning of scoreless baseball vs. Hawai’i at the Rose City Invitational...also pitched one inning and struck out two during Oregon’s 6-4 victory over Sacramento State (3/25)...in his second-longest relief effort of the year, threw 3 and 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball, holding Oregon State hitless while striking out two (5/20)...also pitched three innings of scoreless baseball, while tossing a career-best five strikeouts vs. Washington (4/24).

2008 MLB DRAFT
Selected in the 43rd round (1,287 overall) by the San Francisco Giants in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

PRIOR TO OREGON
Played the 2007 and 2008 seasons at Ventura College (Calif.)...as a sophomore was named to the all-SoCal team and the Western State Conference North Team...helped Ventura to a 28-15 record after making 13 appearances on the mound and finishing the year with an 11-1 record...pitched 89.0 innings with a 1.12 ERA.

HIGH SCHOOL
A 2006 graduate of Oak Park High School (Calif.)...on the diamond was an all-state, all-CIF and all-Tri-Valley League performer.
