NEW HAVEN, Conn. - University of Oregon senior running back Kenjon Barner was one of 26 players named to the 123rd edition of the Walter Camp Football Foundation first-team All-America squad.

The nation’s oldest and most prestigious All-America team is selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 124 Football Bowl Subdivision schools and certified by Marcum LLP, a New Haven-based accounting firm.

Barner was one of five finalists for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award that was won by Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o.

Earlier in the day, Barner added the Sporting News All-American award to his previous selection by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), becoming the fifth player in school history to earn consensus All-American status. Barner joins an exclusive group of Ducks, including James (2010, '11), Cliff Harris (2010), Haloti Ngata (2005) and Mel Renfro (1962).

He was previously named to the Pac-12 Conference all-league first team as well as the American Football Coaches Association’s first-team All-America contingent, and was one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back.

The Riverside, Calif., standout ran for 1,624 yards and scored 22 touchdowns this season to rank fifth in the country in rushing (135.3 avg.) and tied for sixth in scoring (11.0 ppg). He also tied for third nationally in TDs scored while ascending to second on the Ducks’ all-time single-season scoring list (132 points) and fourth on the one-year rushing ledger. Barner eclipsed the 100-yard rushing plateau in seven of 12 appearances this season and ran for 195 yards or more four times, including a career-high 321 yards (and five touchdowns) at USC.

He joins former teammate LaMichael James as a recipient of the All-America honor as the Ducks’ all-time rushing leader was named to the Walter Camp All-America Team each of the last two years.

Barner will be honored at the organization’s national awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.

Barner is the Ducks' second-leading rusher all-time with 3,480 yards and sits only 188 yards shy of James' UO record of 5,869 all-purpose yards. He leads No. 5 Oregon (11-1) into the 2013 Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 3 vs. No. 7 Kansas State (11-1) in Glendale, Ariz.
