Ducks Open Season With 6-1 Victory Over Eastern Washington

EUGENE, Ore. - The Ducks won five of their six singles matches en route to a season-opening 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Friday afternoon in Eugene.

Oregon starts the season 1-0 with the win while Eastern Washington falls to 0-2 with the loss.

Oregon senior Patricia Skowronski teamed with sophomore Nicole Long to defeat the Eagles' Moira Hedberg and Chelsea Patton, 8-1, in the first doubles match of the day.  Julia Metzger and Lana Buttner followed with an 8-1 win in their doubles match as well to put the Ducks up 1-0 in the match.

In singles play, Skowronski topped Hedberg in the No. 1 slot (6-1, 6-1) and Long beat Patton (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 2 match.  Metzger beat Chrissy Uriarte, 6-1, 6-1, to win in the No. 3 position and sophomore Sofia Hager beat Kelsey Knight, 6-1, 6-0, to win in the No. 4 singles match.  Buttner won her match over Ryann Warner in the fifth position (6-0, 6-2) and junior Lena Macomson dropped a tough 6-4, 6-0 match in the sixth spot to Alexis Filliol. 

The Ducks next take the floor tomorrow evening at home against Idaho.  Match time from the Oregon Student Tennis Center is slated for 5 p.m.  The match can be followed live by clicking here.
