EUGENE, Ore. – Another day, another college baseball preseason top 25 poll and once again the Oregon Ducks are among the nation’s best. UO will head into the season as the preseason No. 7 team in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll released today.
The top 15 ranking is the fifth of the preseason for the Ducks, who were ranked No. 6 in the Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll in December and the USA Today Coaches Poll that came out last week. UO is No. 10 in the Perfect Game Poll and 15th in the Baseball America poll which were both were released last week as well.
Oregon won a school-record 46 games in 2012 before ending its season in the Super Regional in Eugene. UO returns seven position player starters this season behind a pitching staff that features four returning starters and an All-American reliever. Jimmie Sherfy earned first-team All- America pre-season recognition by Louisville Slugger, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game.
The Ducks open their season Feb. 15 against Hawaii in Honolulu. Oregon opens at PK Park on Friday, Feb. 22, after wrapping up the four-game series at Hawaii.
