EUGENE, Ore. -- Jillian Alleyne has been named to Full Court’s Freshman All-American Second Team it was announced recently. Alleyne averaged team-highs with 13.0 points, 11.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game for the Ducks in one of the best seasons by a freshman in school history.
Alleyne was one of two Pac-12 freshman recognized by Full Court, joining Colorado’s Arielle Roberson who was a third team selection.
On the year, Alleyne grabbed 370 rebounds in 31 games (11.9 rpg) which ranks her second all-time at UO for boards in a single season. Her rebound total was just six shy of the school record held by Bev Smith who tallied 376 rebounds in 32 games (11.8 rpg) during the 1980-81 season.
Alleyne finished the year tied for seventh in the nation for rebounding average and was the highest ranked freshman in NCAA Division I women’s basketball. She also ranked 10th nationally in scoring for a freshman.
Alleyne was second in the Pac-12 Conference for rebounding. She was alone at No. 1 in the league rankings for the first 13 weeks of the year before relinquishing the lead to Stanford’s Chiney Ogwumike, who finished the year averaging 12.9 rebounds per outing.
The 6-2 forward from Fontana, Calif., was tabbed the Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year by media who cover the league. She was selected to the Pac-12’s All-Freshman Team in separate votes conducted by both the media and the coaches.
Alleyne registered a team-high 12 double-doubles which is a number that ranked tied for third amongst Pac-12 players.
In just her second game as a collegiate player, Alleyne grabbed 27 rebounds and broke the school and Pac-12 rebounding record in UO’s double-overtime home loss to Portland State. In the same game Alleyne also matched UO’s school record for points with 38.
Her 27 rebounds in that game were the most by a NCAA Division I women’s basketball player in 2012-13. The total broke the Pac-12 mark set nearly 20 years ago by UCLA’s Natalie Williams in 1994. The mark also took down UO’s 34-year-old record that had stood since 1978. It is also the 24th-highest single-game total in NCAA history (since 1982).
