Sherfy Named NCBWA First-Team All-American

EUGENE, Ore.Jimmie Sherfy has been named a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced.

Sherfy finished the season second in the nation in saves with 21 while boasting a 2-0 record with a 2.25 ERA. He struck out 55 hitters in 40 innings pitched, while allowing just 10 earned runs on 33 hits with 14 walks. He broke his own Oregon single-season saves record of 19 that he set in 2012.

The Camarillo, Calif., native ended his junior season as the active career leader in strikeouts per nine innings (12.98) while ranking second in career saves with 40.

Sherfy is also one of five finalists for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, an honor given to the top reliever in NCAA Division I baseball. The junior right-hander is a finalist for the second straight year. Sherfy, who was drafted in the 10th round of last week’s Major League Baseball Draft, was previously named Louisville Slugger second-team All-America.
