Hawkins Wins USA Junior National Team Exhibition in West Virginia

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The USA Softball Junior National Team rolled to a pair of wins in its exhibition doubleheader vs. the Glenville All-Stars Monday at the Sue Morris Complex.

In the 12-0 opener, Duck freshman Cheridan Hawkins (Anderson, Calif.) won the start after she pitched the opening three innings, struck out six, and allowed no hits or walks.

Erica Nunn (Apex, N.C.) finished the game, collected two strikeouts and allowed one hit.

In the same contest, Duck freshman and second baseman Danica Mercado (Temecula, Calif.) walked, went 0-for-2, and drove in a run on a first-inning ground out.

In the 6-3 second-game victory, Mercado went 1-for-4 and scored the team's second run in the third inning.

America's top players aged 19 and under used the doubleheader as a tune-up for the International Softball Federation (ISF) X Junior Women’s World Championship next week in Brampton, Ontario, July 1-7.

Last week, the same U.S. Junior National Team dropped its four games vs. the Ashland All Stars by 9-1, 6-1, 9-0 and 13-4 scores on Friday-Saturday, June 21-22.
