NEW YORK -- University of Oregon power forward Arsalan Kazemi was taken with the 54th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and will begin his professional career as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. He is the first Iranian-born player selected in the NBA Draft.
Kazemi became the 38th UO player drafted into the NBA and first since Malik Hairston (48th by Phoenix) and Maarty Leunen (54th by Houston) in 2008.
In his lone season with the Ducks, Kazemi was named to the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team and Pac- 12 All-Tournament squad, helping Oregon to the conference tournament title and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16. A transfer from Rice, Kazemi became Oregon’s leading rebounder, setting the school’s modern single-season record with 350 boards - the most in over 57 years - while his 71 steals were the second-most by a Duck in a single campaign.
