BRNO, Czech Republic - University of Oregon sophomore-to-be Canace Finley continued to boost the USA Volleyball Junior National Team in concluding action in the the FIVB U20 World Championships this weekend.

The Fort Collins, Colo., native logged her best performance of the seven-match tournament vs. Nigeria on Saturday. She came off the bench to lead the Americans in kills (9) among her 12 attempts, and also notched a block.

She also played two sets vs. Thailand on Friday and Puerto Rico on Sunday and had a kill in each match.

Team-wise this weekend, the USA swept Nigeria and Puerto Rico, and edged Thailand, 3-1, to place 17th overall in the event.

Also on Sunday, China won the tournament gold medal after it swept Japan, while Brazil topped Italy, 3-0, for the bronze medal.

Last week, the U.S. squad went 1-3 in pool play after it was swept by Bulgaria and Brazil, topped Mexico, 3-1, and lost in straight sets to Russia.

In February, Finley was selected to the 12-person squad based on her play at a USA Volleyball National Team tryout in Colorado Springs.

Last fall, she started 28 of Oregon’s 35 matches at middle blocker, and paced the team in blocks per set average (0.77 p/s) for the season.

The team's top freshman led the squad in blocks in 11 matches, and logged a team-season high six blocks in the four-set NCAA semifinal win over No. 1 Penn State, and three-set win at Portland State.

Finley was instrumental in Oregon posting NCAA and Pac-12 runner-up finishes en route to a 30-5 overall mark and a year-end No. 2 national ranking.

Looking ahead to this fall, the Ducks have their first intersquad scrimmage at Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday, August 17, followed by an exhibition vs. a Duck alumni team on Friday, August 23.

The team then kicks off the season by hosting the Oregon Classic on Fri.-Sat., Aug. 30-31 against Bryant, Eastern Washington and Ohio.
