Current Ducks hand former Ducks defeat in Alumni Game

EUGENE, Ore. -- Twenty alumni of the University of Oregon baseball program returned last Friday to take part in the 2013 Alumni Game against members of the current Ducks' team.

Recent graduates of the program including Jimmie Sherfy, J.J. Altobelli, Christian Jones, Tyler Anderson, Ryon Healy, Scott McGough, Justin LaTempa and Brett Thomas were back to watch their cronies lose 5-3 to the 2014 Duck baseball team.

Cole Irvin, Jake Reed, Darrell Hunter and Garrett Cleavinger took turns on the mound for the Ducks, who trailed their older counterparts 1-0 before taking the lead in the top of the 5th.

Following the game the Ducks handed out their annual awards for accomplishments during the 2013 season.  Award winners are listed below.

Most Improved Academic Achievement: Sam Johnson

Outstanding Academic Achievement: Jared Priestley

John Hammer Most Improved Player:  Mitchell Tolman

Team Captain:  Brett Thomas

Best Teammate:  Brett Thomas

Outstanding Offensive Player:  Ryon Healy

Outstanding Defensive Player: JJ Altobelli

Hal Saltzman Most Valuable Pitcher:  Tommy Thorpe & Jimmie Sherfy

Most Valuable Player:  Ryon Healy
