Assistant Coach Angela Ucci checks in Friday morning from the National Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.:
It has been an interesting trip so far to say the least. We had a three hour delay on Tuesday in the Kansas City airport due to hail. Most of the team was amazed with the weather so they were entertained by that, or by taking pictures of themselves on their Mac Books and using software to distort them.
The next day we practiced and Marly Campos and Morgan O'Donnell hit heads resulting in the most amazing black eye I have seen in a while. Our trainer Emily literally had to tape Morgan’s eyelid open so that she could see to compete! She is incredibly tough.
On Thursday, our first day of competition was not our best, but we were able to make it into finals. Day two of competition will undoubtedly be better than day one! We had some major mistakes on Thursday that weren't typical... I think we left our “A” game in the hotel rooms. But today we woke up on the right side of the bed and packed our “A” games first thing.
Today we ate breakfast as a team and joked around all morning. We made some changes in practice yesterday that will ease some nerves. The team feels more like a team today rather than 24 individuals. There is more of a relaxed feeling in the air. These ladies won’t be disappointed again today and they are prepared to take the floor today like true Ducks! We are going make history today for Oregon stunts and gymnastics!
