On Friday May 18th, O Heroes partnered with the WARSAW Sports Business Club and NAYA (Native American Youth and Family Center) Early College Academy in Portland, Oregon for an interactive field day for over 70 youth.

NAYA's mission is to enhance the diverse strengths of their youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education.

Throughout the day, students participated in multiple sports ranging from football and basketball to lacrosse and golf. Traditional Native American games, including Shinny and Hot Rocks, were taught by regional Native American cultural teachers.

Anthony Newman, a UO Alumni and former NFL player, spent the day with the participants. He emphasized the importance of hard work, healthy eating, and teamwork.

Also in attendance was Oregon Freshman Aspen Toledo from the Acrobatics and Tumbling team. She quizzed the participants on their Native American sports history knowledge and assisted with score keeping at the Shinny station.

At the conclusion of the event, the teachers expressed how a handful of students who whole heartedly and enthusiastically participated in NAYA field day had rarely fully engaged or participated in past physical activity events all year. It was an extremely special day for the kids, Warsaw Sports Business Club members and the O Heroes.
