O Heroes will work with MBA students at the Lundquist College of Business to collect 2,012 pairs of recycled athletic shoes to support the “A Step In The Right Direction” initiative benefiting Hope4Hoopers and Nike Reuse-A-Shoe, both on campus and at upcoming Hayward Field Track and Field competitions.

The students aim to collect athletic shoes of all types. Shoes donated in good condition will be donated to Hope4Hoopers, a Portland based organization that donates shoes to children in need, while remaining shoes will be recycled through Nike Reuse-A-Shoe.

“This initiative will provide a great opportunity to help children in need and echo the UO MBA’s sustainability efforts,” said O Heroes Director Judy Sheldon.

Shoes can be donated to collection bins located across campus through June 2012. Bins are located in Lillis Hall, Erb Memorial Union (EMU), Casanova Center, Matt Knight Arena, John E. Jaqua Center for Student Athletes (Room 102) and the Student Recreation Center.

Additionally, collection bins will be located at the Prefontaine Classic on Friday, June 1 and Saturday, June 2, 2012 and at the U.S. Olympic Trials June 22 – July 1, 2012; both competitions take place at Hayward field.
