The O Heroes were out in full force in Eugene last Wednesday March 2nd for Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and the nationally celebrated Read Across America Week. O Heroes participated in activities with eight different local schools!

At Gilham, Head Start, Spring Creek, McCornack and Cesar Chavez Elementary schools student athletes read books to students as well as signed autographs, took pictures and answered questions. At Cal Young Middle school, O Heroes served as the emcee’s for the school’s annual ‘Battle of the Books’ competition where the kids played a competitive game of trivia about the books they’d read over the course of the year. 2nd graders from O’Hara Elementary joined athletes at the player’s lounge at the Moshofsky center where they broke into small reading groups to enjoy some of Dr. Seuss’s classics and then got to tour the Casanova center and even play sharks and minnows in Autzen Stadium. (After the event, David Paulson of the football team tweeted, “Hop on Pop is still as good as I remembered.”) At Adams, athletes participated in an exciting game of ‘Are you Smarter than a 4th Grader?’ at the school's family night reading celebration.

All in all it was a total success and a great day for the student athletes to share their love for reading and for the youth of Eugene. Thanks to all the athletes who participated for helping to make the day a great one for so many!
