EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men’s golf team returns to the green Monday, Oct. 14, as they head to the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Sonoma Golf Club in Sonoma, Calif. for the two-day event. The invitational will be played on a par-72 course that spans over 7,087 yards of rye grass. Tee time is set for 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Ducks will be represented by Zach Foushee, Brandon McIver, Thomas Lim, Sulman Raza and Ryann Ree.
The 16-team tournament field will be one of the toughest for UO during the fall season with every team ranked in the top-200. Of the 16 teams, 11 are ranked within the top-100 in the latest Golfweek Rankings with California (4th), Arizona State (23rd), Oregon State (48th) and Brigham Young (45th) all in the top-50.
The Ducks currently sit at No. 53 in the rankings just behind San Diego State (51st) and Minnesota (52nd).
UO will also see some familiar faces as four other Pac-12 foes in ASU, Cal, CU and OSU will also be in the hunt for the title.
The men of Oregon placed 11th last year at the invitational behind senior Robbie Ziegler (-6/207) who tied for ninth. Raza, a freshman last year, tied for 26th while Rak Cho tied for 34th. Two years prior, UO (-41/811) took home a share of the title with Cal behind Eugene Wong’s -18.
The Golden Bears have won seven titles in the past 11 years since the tournament’s inception in 2002.
Last time out, the Ducks took second at the Saint Mary’s Invitational behind conference-rival Cal (297-293-294—884 (+20)). McIver led the way for Oregon shooting 220 (+4), tying him for 12th place. Lim, who is ranked 51st by Golfweek, rallied from a rough first round (78) and carded a 72 and 71 on the final two rounds to tie for 19th overall.
Jonathan Woo and Cho again finished in a tie for 42nd having carded a 226 (+10). Ree rounded things out for Oregon shooting a 227 (+11) and tied for 48th.
UO’s best finisher was Foushee who carded a 217 (+1) in 54-hole tournament but the sophomore was unfortunately competing as an individual separate from the team score.
