WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – After picking up all three wins for the No. 10 University of Oregon softball team (26-4, 3-0) this weekend, freshman Cheridan Hawkins was rewarded with Pac-12 Softball Pitcher of the Week honors Monday.

On Saturday and Sunday, Hawkins pitched eight scoreless innings in relief in the opening 4-3 and 3-2 victories over No. 15 Stanford.

In those games, she retired 14 of her 18 combined outs via strikeouts and allowed only two infield hits and no walks or runs.

She also bettered her season strikeout-per-seven-innings average (10.80) that ranked sixth nationally last week with a 16.33 weekend average.

Factoring in her win in Monday's start and 10-3 decision, she struck out 18 batters in her 11 innings for the three games, walked none, and allowed six hits and three runs for a 1.91 ERA.

Three weeks ago, she was received similar honors after the team went 6-0 in the Citrus Classic near Orlando. Among her four appearances on the trip, she led the squad in ERA (0.45), wins (2), innings (15.2), strikeouts (29) and opposing batting average (.078).

Against Boston College, she logged UO’s second-highest strikeout tally ever (15) in her six-inning, 8-0 shutout. Against James Madison, she struck out six in 5.2 innings, walked one and allowed only two hits vs. the Dukes who picked up votes in the national poll. She also struck out six vs. returning NCAA tourney advancer Long Island in two innings. She added two strikeouts in her two innings vs. Super Regional returnee and No. 14 Michigan, and allowed no hits or runs.

Monday’s award marked the 39th pitcher/player honor in school history, and ninth overall in the tenure of head coach Mike White (and the fifth for a Duck pitcher).

Among the current roster, senior outfielder Samantha Pappas and pitcher Jessica Moore are two-time recipients, and junior catcher Alexa Peterson and senior outfielder Allie Burger received similar nods in 2011 and ’10, respectively.

Also honored Monday with Player of the Week honors was California catcher Lindsey Ziegenhirt (5-for-7, 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI) as Cal swept Utah and is tied for the Pac-12 lead with Oregon.

Looking ahead, the Ducks head to No. 17 Washington, this Thursday-Saturday, March 28-30, for for their second week of Pac-12 play. Friday's 4 p.m. second game will be broadcast live by the Pac-12 TV Network.
