Each week O Heroes sits down with one of our student-athletes to get to know more about them on and off the field. This week we feature Carlyle Garrick, a 6-2 linebacker on the Oregon Football team.

A native to Hayward, CA, Garrick is well known for his dedication to academics in the classroom, athletics on the field, and volunteer work in the community. He is a hard-working student, majoring in Business Administration at University of Oregon’s Lundquist College of Business.

Garrick’s commitment to Lane County makes him an exceptional O Hero. On a weekly basis he visits the Boys & Girls Club of Emerald Valley where he is a mentor for local kids. Recently, Garrick initiated a collaborative edition of the newest Internet sensation, the Harlem Shake featuring O Heroes, the Harlem Globetrotters and Boys & Girls Club. With an undeniable sense of humor and happy-go-lucky disposition, he was the perfect person to organize the video. Check him and the rest of the crew in the Harlem Shake video here

Each term,
Garrick continues to be a role model within the community. His ability to make people smile is attributed to his life motto, “Never serious, always laughing and making jokes.”

After graduation he hopes to gain professional experience working at Nike or Adidas. He plans to take his volunteer experiences with O Heroes and continue participating in community events. Eventually, Carlyle plans to establish his own sports center for kids in the Bay Area. In true O Heroes fashion,
Garrick wants to create a fun environment for kids to play sports, and have access to athletic shoes sports equipment.
