Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly

On the approach to the game…

“I’m really proud of how our guys came out, but not only of how they came out but of how they finished. We watched them (Washington) play Stanford last week and we knew that they were going to give it their best shot, so it was about us doing what we do and executing it tonight.”

On how the team prepares…
“Every week is rival week for us. That form has worked for us every time, so maybe more people should do it like us. I don’t care who you play, there is no reason to focus on one game more than another. Why would you diminish one opponent and build up another just because there is proximity from a distance? If you don’t play like that, you’re going to get knocked off. This works for us and we will continue to do it.”

On how hard the team works…
“What you’re seeing on Saturday is a culmination of a week of hard work. We make our own good luck, that’s what we do.”

On the return game…
“We preach and practice returns after turnovers. If their defense gives it to us it’s our job offensively to do something with it.”

On Marcus Mariota
“He can keep plays extended with his feet, but he is looking to throw, and he’s not always looking to run but if they force him to run then he will take off and go. That really adds a huge dimension to your offense when your quarterback can buy some time.”

On the teams greatest improvement so far this season…

“Our biggest improvement so far is that we are bowl eligible. We are 6-0 and the team understands that we control what we can control.”

Washington Head Coach Steve Sarkisian

Opening Comments...
“It was extremely frustrating. We really felt like we could come in and play with them; we felt like we had a good plan offensively. But we had a hard time tacking the quarterback when he got out of the pocket. That made things difficult for us. I don’t think the score is indicative of their football team as compared to ours.”

On how his team played...
“It felt like we had a good plan and that we probably played one of our better games up front, from an offensive line standpoint. I felt we ran the football well, but we didn’t catch the ball well enough tonight. There were a couple of missed throws and a couple missed reads, but we’ve got to try to clean up our passing game and get it matched up with our running game.”

On the team’s psyche after the game...
“I was pleased with their ability to come out in the second half, battle, and compete. In the third quarter we did a nice job offensively with a touchdown. I just wish the game hadn’t gotten away from us so early because I really believe that score is not indicative of the two teams. But, they got us and that’s the way it is.”

On the Ducks...
“[Oregon] is a good offensive team; they have a lot of speed on the field. I thought the biggest thing that was glaring at us was trying to contain the quarterback because he is just so fast.”

OREGON PLAYER QUOTES

#24 RB Kenjon Barner

On their preparation for the week…

“We had an incredible week of practice, could potentially have been one of our best weeks of practice all season. We came into this game prepared and it showed, I am happy with our overall performance.”

On the bye week and preparing for Arizona State…

“I wish we could play next week, but it is always nice to get a week off to recover and get ready for the second half of the season.”

On playing Washington…

“Every game we play is a rivalry game, every game that we play within our own conference is the most important game we have ever played. It is always fun to beat Washington, but it is fun to win every game, this one is just another step to our overall goal.”

#8 QB Marcus Mariota

On the game today…

“We played a great overall game out there. Offensively, defensively, special teams, we were clicking on all cylinders.”

On Colt Lyerla

“Colt is one of those kids that can play every position and is going to excel at that position. It is nice to know that we have him as a weapon.”

On bye week…
“It will be nice to recoup and get ready for the second half of the season. It is good for everyone to get back to 100 % and get ready to play Arizona State.”

#65 DT Isaac Remington

On starting out strong...
“We came out and wanted to compete. I don’t know if you guys saw them stomping on our O during warm-ups, but that really fired us up.”

On whether or not this was a rivalry game...

“Every game is a rivalry game. We play each game like it’s the national championship, so it’s no different for us.”

On defensive scheme…
“We wanted to go out there and work downfield, pushing into their backfield. We wanted to force them into long downs and help out our offense.”

#12 S Brian Jackson

On Oregon’s multiple interceptions this season…

“We just practice how we play -we’re getting picks in practice. If we get the ball in our hands, we are going to try and go home with it.”

On improving throughout the season...

“I can feel myself getting better. We’ve really been developing the secondary and I feel like we can’t do anything but get better.”

On Avery Patterson and his performance lately...

“He has really good coverage. He comes up with the ball. He’s not afraid to play anybody, so if someone is running at him full speed, he is going to run right back.”
