Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly
On the game…
“They had a great week of preparation and that’s what showed up today on the field. I thought our guys, right from the start, were really focused and understood the game plan. They were playing both sides of the ball and we got contributions from not only the offense and the defense but from the special teams today. Still have a lot of work to do, but I think it was a good game.”

On the offense…
“It always starts up front. Getting a lot of guys rotating in, but I think we’re getting consistent play up there and staying out of the negative yardage situations. I thought we protected the ball real well with our first group so we capitalized on their one kickoff return fumble. That’s what this team is; we feed off each other.”

“They got a good feel. We got a couple special guys back there that can really make this thing go and you combine them with what our line is playing like right now, and then the threat of Marcus (Mariota) keeping it, I think makes it very difficult for defense.”

On the defense …
“We had an opportunity to get everyone in today and it’s always experience for them. The more experience they get, the more comfortable they get in that environment and the better off it’s going to be for us.”

“They’re confidence is based on their preparation and that is the key to what we are doing.”

COLORADO COACH QUOTES

Colorado Head Coach Jon Embree
On Oregon...
“I think the play that epitomized their [Oregon’s] speed the most was that punt return. We had three guys, maybe four that had a shot at him. I don’t think we touched him.”

“They [Oregon] have an opportunity to hold that crystal ball at the end of the year. I felt that before we played them and I feel the same way now.”

On the attitude coming into the game...
“We wanted to come and compete and see where we stood, see how we stacked up against them.  That’s what I told the guys a championship game would look like. Starting Monday, we’re going to see who wants to work and how we want to continue toward that goal.”

On Colorado’s play...

“The first three possessions, we killed ourselves with penalties. Defensively, we never stopped them.”

“We had a conversation at halftime about what is going to be put on tape for the second half and who was going to continue playing in the game. If I saw a sign of any quit or let up, that’s fine but that’s it for the season. We’ll see how that was. I thought the guys that were in there were still playing with effort.”

On starting #8 Nick Herschman (QB) next week...
“We will look at that. I thought Nick played well. He did some things that were decent. We’ve got to get better with some ball placement. We can help him out, too, by catching it.”

“Nick is performing better right now than Conner [Wood #4]. That is why we went with him.”

On the remainder of the season...
“We have to, as defense coaches, get our guys playing better on that side and getting some stops.”

“It will be great to be at home. We’ve had great crowds. We need to continue to have great crowds. As I said, they play and integral role in our recruiting, they play an integral role in making it so our guys have energy. They were fantastic against Arizona State and UCLA. I know we’re not where they want us to be, from a record standpoint, but they have got to understand that it is around the corner and they can help us make that turn quicker.”

OREGON PLAYER QUOTES

#8 QB Marcus Mariota
On practice this week…
“We really had a good week at practice and it showed today. It is fun to play as well as we did today, because it shows everyone how hard we are working throughout the week.”

On being pulled from the game early…

“My competitive side hates when Coach Kelly tells me I am done for the game, but on the other hand I love watching Bryan (Bennett) and Dustin (Haines) play.”

On the game next weekend against USC…

“We have to have another great week at practice. We cannot get too ahead of ourselves, we just have to take it one day at a time and then go out there and play in a very hostile environment. I am looking forward to the game.”

On today’s game…
“As a offense we clicked very well, I got to take days like this and remember what it feels like to make the right reads out there. I have to continue this and finish our season off strongly.”

#46 LB Michael Clay
On the defense’s performance today…
“We had a couple early lapses in the second half that should have not happened, but overall we played really well out there. We played hard and physical and we have to continue playing like this for the rest of the season.”

On the defense’s mentality…
“We play every down likes it is our last. We have so many guys rotating in that there is no excuse for you to not give your 100% every single down. This intensity fuels the way we play.”

#6 WR/RB De’Anthony Thomas
On his punt return…
“The guys gave me some key blocks and I just found the hole and ran right through it. I have to credit the blockers more than anything they give me the blocks. They have the harder job, I just run as fast as I can.”

On team morale…
“As the season goes on we get closer and closer as a family. We all enjoy playing together and it helps for the way that our games are played.”

#2 QB Bryan Bennett
On this week’s preparation…
“We always play every game like it is our most important, Coach Kelly emphasizes the theory of preparing for a faceless opponent, focusing on how they play rather than who they are.”

On the game today…
“We can always get better, we are never fully perfect. There is always something you can improve on, we are never fully a finished product.”

#24 RB Kenjon Barner
On the team during the second half…
“You kind of turn into a fan cheering guys on trying to keep them motivated and turn into a coach, correcting guys when they’re wrong or could have done something different.”

On his block on the open field…
“My block is up front and down the field with the receiver throughout not just today, but this entire season. The guys up front do a great job of communicating and making sure everyone is on the same page. And once we get everyone on the same page, it’s hard to stop this team. Then the receivers block better than any other receiving core in the country when it comes to blocking down field. I couldn’t be more thankful to have the guys that we have.”

#65 DT Isaac Remington
On being back after the suspension…
“I’m back play now, so I’m moving on from that. I came out and played like I usually played.”

On the game…
“The first and second string did well and then the guys that came in later played really good as well.”

On Colorado’s pro style offense…
“It was good to get different looks than the spread offense we saw in the first seven games. Getting pro looks was really good for us.”

On playing next week at the Coliseum…
“I’m excited to go down there; it’s going to be a good game down at the Coliseum.”

#14 CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu
On the defense…
“We pride ourselves on all running to the ball and getting there. Sometimes we have 11 players making the hit.”

On playing at the Coliseum…
“It’s a tough atmosphere at the Coliseum, we’ll definitely get their A game, just like we do from opponents every week. I will bring my A game, better competition will make me play better. We have a better all around team this year, our defense is much more sound this year.”

On taking it one game at a time…
“I’m taking it one day at a time. You don’t get better if you look ahead.”

Colorado Player Quotes

#46 RB Christian Powell
On personal health...
“I’ve been trying to get back healthy these past few weeks. I’m still not one hundred percent. We’ll say it is about ninety. That is still way better than it was a couple of weeks ago.”

On being a freshman...

“It is tough as a freshman coming from high school where quarters are twelve minutes and then going to fifteen minutes. There is a grind. You just keep working at it and you’ll improve and get accustomed to it.”

On Colorado play...
“We just want to go out and execute and do what we practice every day. “
“Nobody likes getting blown out, especially like this. But we keep coming back and we keep fighting, trying to improve each and every day. That’s all we can do and that’s what we are going to continue to do.”

“We’ve got to keep working, keep grinding it out these last four games. I’m doing the best I can.”

On Oregon...
“They’re a good team. They’re fast, just what anyone would expect. They’re disciplined out there. They made a lot of plays.”

“I would say that they [Oregon] are a lot faster than USC. They’re definitely faster in all aspects.”

“I would have thought USC would be more physical but Oregon actually played more physical.”
