EUGENE, Oregon – For the third time this preseason, University of Oregon junior all-purpose stalwart De’Anthony Thomas has been named to a national award watch list. The PwC SMU Athletic Forum named Thomas a preseason candidate for the 2013 Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation’s top college running back, Thursday.

Thomas, a junior hailing from Los Angeles, has also received consideration for the Maxwell Award (player of the year) and Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player) recently.

The recipient of the 2013 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 12, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas, Texas, in February 2014.

Thomas was one of only two players in the country a year ago to run for over 700 yards, gain more than 400 yards receiving and accumulate over 600 yards in punt and kickoff returns.  He led the Ducks in receptions (45 for 445 yards), punt returns (222 yards) and kickoff returns (389 yards) last season, tying for 29th in the nation (and fifth in the Pac-12) in all-purpose yards (135.2 avg.). Thomas has 3,992 career all-purpose yards and has reached pay dirt 36 times the past two seasons.

The preseason honors keep rolling in for the Ducks, who’ve had six student-athletes named to award watch lists in the past four days.
