HIGH SCHOOL — Garnered first-team all-Northwest League acclaim as wingback and inside linebacker his senior season after attracting honorable mention defensive end honors in 1999. The Seahawks’ defensive player of the year accumulated 40 solo tackles and 26 assists to complement three quarterback sacks, and scored touchdowns on fumble recovery and interception return. Carried the ball 21 times for 261 yards his final year (12.4-yard avg.) and caught eight passes for 80 yards.
OREGON — The two-time honorable mention all-conference standout has set the bar for himself higher every year and now those around him come to expect it. Known for his ability to pressure the quarterback, has worked to improve his ability to hold his own at the line of scrimmage. Yet complicating his desire has been a recurring back and hamstring injuries that again sidelined him for the majority of the spring. Always has found a way to bounce back when they’re playing for keeps in the fall as he has prided himself in not missing a workout during the season. Begins final year fourth on the school’s career quarterback sacks list (19.5) and 10 shy of the school record. Also seventh on all-time tackles-for-loss chart (32) and trailing leader by 12 stops. Equalling team high with 24 consecutive starts, has posted tackles for loss in 16 of 24 games covering the past two seasons.
2004 — Shared honors as Ducks’ fifth-leading tackler and tops among down linemen, including a career-high nine stops (5 unassisted) at Oklahoma as well as a team-best eight tackles against Washington. Accumulated 4.5 tackles for loss against the Sooners and parlayed forced fumbles with QB sacks vs. Oklahoma and the Huskies. Was the recipient of team’s top defensive lineman award.
2003 — Enjoyed a breakthrough season as a sophomore, starting in all 13 games along the defensive line en route to earning honorable mention all-Pac-10 honors. Explosive and fast with tremendous instincts, Long finished the season fourth in the league in quarterback sacks in addition to posting the program’s most tackles for loss by a down lineman in three seasons. Put up a career-high six tackles at Utah, including one sack for a loss of four yards. Had at least one sack in seven games, including a career-best three vs. Oregon State. After finishing third on the school’s all-time single-season QB sacks chart, is now just 3.5 sacks shy of breaking into Oregon’s career top 10. Came out of the gate strong with confidence, posting at least one tackle for loss in the Ducks’ first six games of the season and in nine of Oregon’s 13 games, capped by two tackles for a loss of 10 yards in the Sun Bowl. Had multiple sacks in three contests, including two for minus-20 yards at UCLA and two for a loss of 12 yards vs. Nevada.
2002 — Continued his growth and development during the season, eventually starting vs. Washington State. Had limited action in seven games due to a hamstring injury, yet saved one of his best performances for last. Had his biggest day against the Cougars, finishing with two solo tackles among a trio of stops. Also added three tackles in the Seattle Bowl as he recorded tackles in each of his last four games.
2001 — The scout team defender earned unit’s player-of-the-week recognition for preparations vs. USC, Arizona, Washington State and UCLA.
