COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. University of Oregon junior volleyball player Neticia Enesi continued to validate her place among the nation’s elite players with an invitation to join the 24-person U.S. Women’s National A2 Team Monday.

The Dalles, Ore., native was one of six middle blockers picked to the squad, and one of five Pac-10 players selected among all positions.  Other league members chosen included Arizona’s junior outside hitter Whitney Dosty and junior setter Paige Weber and California’s junior setter Carli Lloyd and sophomore outside hitter Tarah Murrey.

The national A2 squad will train together May 18-22 in Minneapolis, and afterwards two 12-person teams will compete in the 2009 USA Adult Open Championships, May 23-26 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Additional information on the tournament can be found at

A complete team announcement is available at the USA Volleyball website ( ) at the URL address.

Enesi was selected partly based on her performances at a USA Volleyball training camp, held February 20-22 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Three other Ducks also attended the camp senior Katie Swoboda, junior Sonja Newcombe and sophomore Heather Meyers.

The 6-1 Enesi enjoyed a breakout season in ’08 and was one of several Ducks that claimed multiple All-America honors. She was tabbed to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Second Team and Mizuno All-America Third Team after she claimed her first All-Pac-10 and All-Region First Team honors.

On the court last fall, she broke the Ducks’ single season hitting record with her .389 mark, and eclipsed former All-American Sue Harbour’s previous all-time Oregon best from 1984 (.364).  Enesi also rewrote the school block assists record (143), and ended six ahead of the former mark by Cathy Hill, 137 (129 sets, 1980), and had UO’s ninth-best total block tally (153).

As a team the Ducks enjoyed another stellar campaign and advanced to the Sweet 16 and 64-team NCAA Tournament third round for only the second time after it also achieved the feat in 2007. Fourth-year Duck mentor Jim Moore now sports a 4-3 postseason mark with the Ducks in his three trips. Prior to his arrival, UO had won only one postseason match in the tourney that originated in 1981, and had a 1-4 mark in its prior appearances in 1994 (1-1), '86 (0-1), '87 (0-1) and '89 (0-1).

Overall in ’08, UO notched its most wins overall (25) since 1984 (27), and tied its best Pac-10 finish and record (fourth, 11-7) since 1987. Oregon also claimed its first set of three straight consecutive top-six league finishes (fourth-’08, fifth-’07; sixth-’06) since the origin of the Pacific-10 Conference in 1986. In addition, the Ducks have enjoyed +17 wins three straight seasons (25-’08, 22-’07, 17-’06) for the first time since 1985-86-87 (17-22-17).
