EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 8 Oregon volleyball team finished its preseason exhibition schedule with a straight-set victory over a team of Oregon alumni at Matthew Knight Arena , Friday, winning 25-17, 25-16, 25-18.

Liz Brenner led the winning side with 14 kills on 26 attempts and finished one dig shy of a double-double, with 9.

Brenner went head-to-head with former teammate and AVCA National Player of the Year, Alaina Bergsma, who tallied 15 kills. The Oregon great, who is now training with USA Volleyball, was excited to make the trip back to Eugene and play in front of the home crowd.

“It was really fun being back, it’s definitely a comfortable place,” said Bergsma. “It was fun seeing everyone and seeing how much better they’ve gotten during the spring.”

Bergsma was big at the net on both sides, notching a match-high three blocks, two of which were solo.

The third All-American on the court was senior setter Lauren Plum who finished with 33 assists on the night.

Oregon started the night out slow, hitting .143 in the first set but responded in the second set by bumping that hitting number to .500, getting kills on 15 of 26 attempts. The squad finished the match successful on 26.8 percent of their attempts overall.

Ariana Williams racked up the second most kills with eight, while fellow middle blocker Kacey Nady was 3-for-3 on her attempts.

The annual event of bringing back former players is a treat for ninth-year head coach Jim Moore.

“I’ve never gotten to be as involved with the alumni as I am here, and this is very special to me,” Moore said.

The Ducks will open the regular season at home with the Oregon Classic, Aug. 30-31. They will start things off against Eastern Washington, Friday at 7 p.m., followed by matches against Bryant and Ohio, Saturday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
