EUGENE – Coming off a history-making opening week of Pac-12 play, the No. 2 University of Oregon volleyball team (11-0, 2-0) picked up AVCA National Player of the Week honors for the sixth straight season, thanks to last week’s efforts by junior Lauren Plum.

The All-Pac-12 setter from Poway, Calif., native helped lead the Ducks to sweeps of the returning conference champion and then-No. 2 Trojans and then-No. 26 Beavers. Last Friday, Oregon ended a 21-match losing streak in Troy, and two days before claimed its 11th win vs. the Beavers in the last 13 Civil War meetings.
She directed the Duck offense to .357 and .368 hitting marks vs. the Trojans and Beavers. Both marks were the teams’ opponent season highs (and easily bettered the next-best respective marks of .297 and .305 by returning national champion and then-No. 1 UCLA last week).

Her 48 and 46 assists vs. OSU and USC were the team’s season high for three-set matches, and third- and fourth-best overall behind other four- and five-set match totals (64, 61).

The Duck offense again smacked of balance as four hitters posted +10 kills and +.290 marks vs. the Beavers, and three hitters with +8 kills topped .375 vs. the Trojans.

Her weekend 15.67 assists per set average easily topped her season average (13.09) that leads the nation again this week.

Last weekend, she also pushed her career assists tally to 3,034 to become the third Duck setter to connect on 3,000 assists.

Plum also earned similar honors last October after she helped UO to its first sweep of then-No. 7 Washington since 1995. The next night she helped engineer an 0-2 comeback win against Washington State for Oregon’s 12th straight victory in the series (and the last four with her at setter).

In 2010, All-American and redshirt senior outside hitter Alaina Bergsma picked up AVCA National Player of the Week honors after UO swept then-returning NCAA qualifier WSU and ended the then-No. 7 Washington’s 36-set season win streak in 3-1 decision in Eugene.

All-American Sonja Newcombe picked up similar honors in 2009 after the team’s wins against then-No. 5 Stanford and then-No. 14 California in Eugene, and in ’08 after home victories vs. then-No. 4 USC and then-No. 5 UCLA. In ’07, All-American Gorana Maricic was likewise tabbed after wins vs. then-No. 6 USC and then-No. 9 UCLA in Eugene.

Earlier this week, Plum picked up Oregon’s 16th Pac-12 Player of the Week nod in head coach Jim Moore’s eight years at the helm, and 25th all-time for Oregon since 1986.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Oregon welcomes Utah and Colorado to Matthew Knight Arena for matches on Friday, September 28 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, September 29 at 7 p.m., respectively.

Friday’s match will be televised by the Pac-12 Network regionally, and promotions-wise is a Yellow Out-Fan Appreciation Night. Spectators that wear yellow a Duck spirit tee can receive a G.A. ticket for only $3 at the door. Against the Utes, season ticket holders can also bring two friends with them to get discounted $2 general admission tickets for each guest.

Fans for Friday's Utah tilt can also bring their Arizona football game ticket stub from last weekend and receive a $1 G.A. ticket at the door.

Against the Buffaloes, kids can get a $1 ticket with a regular-priced adult ticket. The match also offers a Game Show Night theme, and special promotions will be held for fans during the match.
