WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – After helping the Oregon volleyball team to its fourth straight season of 19 wins or more, the conference selected three Ducks to various All-Pac-10 Teams announced Tuesday.
Senior outside hitter Heather Meyers picked up her first All-Pac-10 honor; sophomore outside hitter Alaina Bergsma claimed her first honorable mention nod; and setter Lauren Plum was tabbed to the All-Pac-10 Freshman Team.
Meyer’s honor was the seventh in head coach Jim Moore’s six-year tenure and raised Oregon’s overall tally to 14, while Plum was Moore’s fifth All-Pac-10 Freshman Team honoree and 11th in school history since the origin of the Pacific-10 Conference in 1986.
A two-time All-Pac-10 honorable mention prior, Meyers finished seventh nationally in aces (0.56 per set) and top 80 in points (34th, 4.57 p/s) and kills (80th, 3.72 p/s). She led the league in aces and stood sixth in points, and posted the most aces in a match (6) this season in the league three times. The Temecula, Calif., native capped her career ranked second all-time career-wise in aces (173) in both Pac-10 and Oregon history, and also stood top six on school career lists in points (second, 1,704.5), aces (second, 173), hitting (third, .291), kills (fifth, 1,393) and aces per set (sixth, 0.39). All-time for UO in a season, her ’10 marks ranked top 10 in aces (second, 0.56 p/s), aces (fourth-tied, 60), points (sixth, 494) and points p/s (seventh, 4.57 p/s).
The first-year Duck Bergsma posted 13 +.300 hitting marks (including four +.400 that came in Pac-10 action), and logged four of UO’s top nine kills totals of the slate vs. No. 7 Washington (21, .559), Arizona (20, .395), No. 6 USC (19, .279) and ASU (19, .342). In late September, the Chandler, Ariz., native became UO’s fourth AVCA National Player of the Week in as many years after UO beat then-No. 7 Washington and Washington State. On the season, she ranked third on the team in hitting (.270) and kills (3.14 p/s).
Plum ranked 11th nationally and tops among freshmen in assists (11.75 per set), and helped UO rank top 32 nationally team-wise in aces (24th, 1.61 p/s), assists (27th, 13.22 p/s), kills (28th, 14.12 p/s) and hitting (32nd, .256). She posted the Pac-10’s second- and fourth-best assists marks of 2010 vs. No. 6 USC (66) and at ASU (65); logged seven other +50-assist totals; and her 48 assists in her collegiate debut vs. Santa Clara was the league three-set high. The Poway, Calif., native posted seven double-doubles - most among all Pac-10 frosh – including a pair in three sets. On the Duck all-time season lists, her assists totals ranked top seven (fifth, 11.75 p/s; seventh, 1,246) and second in the modern scoring format.
Other honors announced Tuesday went to Alix Klineman of Stanford (Player of the Year), Falyn Fonoimoana of USC (Freshman of the Year) and Rich Feller of California (Coach of the Year), and the complete All-Pac-10 and All-Pac-10 Freshman Teams are listed below.
