WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – The No. 13 University of Oregon volleyball team (20-8, 13-7) was rewarded after a historic weekend in the Bay Area as the first team this season to sweep Pac-12 Volleyball Player of the Week honors.

Monday’s awards went to the Duck trio of outside hitter Liz Brenner (Freshman of Week), junior libero Haley Jacob (Defensive Player of the Week) and sophomore setter Lauren Plum (Offensive Player of the Week).

Oregon comes off its second pair of same-weekend road wins at Stanford and California ever (and fourth overall), thanks to its five-set decisions over the returning league co-champions.

UO’s win Friday at No. 5 Stanford was its second ever in Palo Alto and fourth all-time overall in the series. Its comeback from an 0-2 deficit at No. 3 California Saturday was its second upset in Berkeley under seventh-year head coach Jim Moore and sixth all-time on the road in the series in Pac-10/12 play.

At Stanford, Brenner erupted for 31 kills - the league season high - and hit a team season high .651 against the nation’s second-ranked blocking team. The next night, her 13 kills at Cal - four shy of the team high - was her 13th double-digit kill figure of the year, and she also upped her season high in blocks (4.0).

Jacob logged 35 digs vs. the No. 5 Cardinal – Oregon’s second-highest total since the start of rally scoring in 2001, and only two behind its best-ever total in that span. She added 21 digs vs. the Bears – her seventh +20 tally of the season – and led the squad in the category for the 19th time this year.

Plum claimed impressive double-doubles vs. Stanford (season high 60 assists, 11 digs) and Cal (57 assists, 14 digs) to give her a team-season high 12 on the year. Her season-high 60 assists against the Cardinal ranks fourth most in the league this year, and her four aces vs. the Bears tied a team season high. She also directed UO to a .292 hitting mark vs. the Cardinal (a Stanford opponent season high) and .245 mark vs. the Bears (the fourth-highest by a Cal foe in 2011).

Earlier this month, Brenner picked up similar freshman weekly honors after UO swept Arizona and beat ASU (3-1) on the road to stake a 4-0 season mark against its desert rivals for the first time.

In October, Plum picked up National Player of the Week and Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week nods after UO’s weekend sweep of Washington State (3-2) and then-No. 7 Washington (3-0).

Similarly the first month of the year, redshirt junior outside hitter Alaina Bergsma earned a pair of league weekly offensive honors, after its 3-0 mark vs. Arizona/ASU/Cal Poly, and its 1-1 opening weekend vs. then-No. 1 Penn State (W, 3-1) and then-No. 12 Minnesota (L, 2-3).

Looking ahead to this week – the final of the regular season - Oregon has two remaining Civil War matches vs. Oregon State.

UO first travels to Corvallis on Tuesday, November 22, then hosts OSU on Friday, November 25, and both matches start at 7 p.m.

Promotions-wise, the Oregon State home match is a Pack Matt Night. Fans that show their Bi-Mart card at the door will get 2 for 1 admission. Civil War football ticket holders can also show their ticket for Saturday to also get in free to the volleyball match. And as any regular season match, Duck students get in for free with current student ID cards.

Afterwards, the 64-team NCAA Tournament field will be announced on Sunday, November 27 on ESPN-U at 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

The NCAA tournament first and second rounds follow the weekend of Thursday-Saturday, December 1-3 at 16 yet-to-be-announced sites nationally.
