Dayton

Head Coach Kelly Sheffield

Opening Statement...

"We obviously didn't start the way we wanted to tonight but I was incredibly proud of how we fought back tonight.  Pepperdine had a lot of momentum after the second set and we just couldn't get anything going and didn't feel good about ourselves.  But we didn't give up, we made some adjustments and it feels so great to get a win in the NCAA Tournament"

On trailing 2-0 heading into the third set...

"Pepperdine was playing incredibly well and had a lot of momentum.  When we huddled after the second set I looked at the girls and told them we have to stay together, we have to believe and we are going to win this match.  We had just been in this situation a couple weeks ago and it was fresh in everyone's mind so we all knew that it could be done.  But give a lot of credit to Pepperdine - they played a great match."

On advancing to the second round...

"This is a huge win.  We are going to feel good about this for a little while.  It was a slugfest tonight and we know we are going to have to play very well tomorrow to advance but we love challenges and we'll worry about tomorrow a little later on.  We're going to enjoy this win for now."

Junior Shayne Brown

On playing in the NCAA Tournament...

"We just had to play with confidence and follow the scouting report that Coach Sheffield gave us like we have been doing the entire year.  We knew if we trusted the scouting report everything would come together."

Senior Rachel Krabacher

On the team's preparation and work...

"We always come into games feeling good about ourselves because we work so hard in training and always put in the extra time and effort that it takes to be successful.  We have to play courageously to win matches and we definitely did tonight."

Pepperdine

Head Coach Nina Matthies

Opening Statement...
"Obviously we’re extremely disappointed that we’re not moving forward, but I thought it was a good match and both teams played very well. It was the epitome of our season, very up and down, sometimes even within a match. I’m proud of our kids. They trained hard all week. I’m proud of them and I’m sorry for them that our season is over. I’d also like to say that the people up here have been fantastic and Oregon has been a great host."

On using this season as motivation for next year...
"Every year that’s what you work on. That’s what we were talking about in the locker room. We’re losing Victoria, which is pretty sad. That’s not the way we wanted her last game to go. We do have a young group with a mostly freshman and sophomore base. We need to get better and work on some techniques in the offseason and just get better. That’s what we talked about in the locker room."

Junior Jazmine Orozco

On having offensive success...
"I was able to have a good game tonight because of Samantha Cash and Victoria drawing the blocks, making my job a little bit easier. The times that I succeeded I followed the coaches’ scouting reports and the times I didn’t, I didn’t follow their advice."

Senior Victoria Adelham

On her college career at Pepperdine...
"
There is so much I could say about my time at Pepperdine. I’m really sad it’s ending this way. We worked really hard all year and my whole career. It’s a shame that it’s your life and all of a sudden after four years it’s just done. I’m thankful for my time and my opportunity at Pepperdine and I have another spring to play beach volleyball so I’m very thankful for that and we’ll try to come out and get another national championship."
