BEIJING, China - The Pac-12 All-Star Volleyball Team continued its trip to China with a four-set loss on Monday vs. Tianjin - the country's top professional team.
Junior-to-be outside hitter Liz Brenner was honored as the player of the match after she posted 13 kills and 12 digs.
Senior-to-be setter Lauren Plum added 52 assts, and Stanford's Inky Ajanaku connected on 16 kills.
The slow-starting Tianjin team, which includes three national team players, dropped the first set and trailed 22-15 in the second set before serving and passing errors plagued the Conference team. The momentum shift was maintained by the Chinese in the third set, but the Pac-12 squad jumped out early in the fourth with a 14-8 lead. Ajanaku stifled the opponent at the net, putting the lead at 20-18. An ace serve for the Chinese team tied the score at 22, and the match was finished in short order.
In over 17 matches played to date, the Pac-12 team has lost seven by two points.
The Pac-12 won its pool by score comparison over the USA development team traveling on the tour and will play the August 1 team it lost to on Sunday evening again Tuesday for the Beijing tournament championship. The match will be covered on China Central Television.
