Ducks Win 102-75 in First Exhibition Game
Release Date: 10/29/2012
Oregon had seven players score in double figures as freshman Dominic Artis led the way with 17, followed by fellow freshman Willie Moore with 15. Junior transfer Waverly Austin scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his first action as a Duck, while veterans Tony Woods and Johnathan Loyd scored 12 each.
Freshman Damyean Dotson recorded Oregon’s only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Another freshman hit double figures as Ben Carter scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards.
The Ducks started off slow but quickly changed the pace of the game as they started a full-court press defense that led to several Concordia turnovers. By the end of the first half, Oregon was up 50-33.
UO’s strong play continued in the second half as they maintained control of the game and extended the lead. The Ducks out-rebounded the Cavaliers 51-41, while committing fewer turnovers (13 to 20) and shooting a higher field goal percentage (50.6% to 40.8%). Oregon went 8-18 from beyond the arc, while Concordia made 5 of 18 three-point attempts.
The home team also filled up the stat sheet defensively as big men Woods and Austin blocked five and three shots, respectively. Moore stole the ball six times in the game, largely thanks to Oregon’s high-pressure, full-court defense.
Oregon will play its final exhibition game next Monday against Southwestern Oklahoma State with tipoff slated for 7:00 p.m. The Ducks will open the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4:30 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.
