Wear Pink 4 Play 4Kay Weekend
Release Date: 02/13/2012
The mission of the Play 4Kay initiative (formerly known as Pink Zone), which was brought to life in 2007 by Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, is raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is the official charity of the initiative.
At Matt Arena on Thursday and Saturday, fans and student-athletes will be participating in “miles4kay.” With two treadmills in the arena, fans can sponsor a walker/runner during their allotted 20 minutes with all proceeds going to the Play4Kay foundation. Miles4kay will begin when the doors open at one hour before game time, and will continue throughout the duration of the game.
Fans are also encouraged to join the women's basketball program, and wear pink to both games this weekend.
The weekend begins at 7 p.m., Thursday with California in town for Couples Night. Fans can show their BI-Mart card at the ticket window and receive two general admissions for the price of one.
Saturday, Oregon will continue "miles4kay" with the proceeds going toward Play 4Kay. There will also be a silent auction for three Oregon "pink" women's basketball jerseys as well as a raffle for a "pink" themed gift basket including a team-autographed basketball.
All proceeds from those two efforts will go to Willamette Valley Cancer Institute. WVCI will also be on site for information and to answer questions.
The Ducks will also participate in a postgame autograph session.
Saturday is also Faculty Appreciation and Chamber of Commerce Day. Both groups can purchase $5 general admission tickets to the game.
In addition on Saturday, alumni from the Oregon women’s basketball program will be honored at halftime, and the Becky Sisley Award will be announced.
