Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Paul Westhead

On tonight’s game:
“It’s not a good idea to lose a season opener. We have to play better basketball. We need to shoot the ball better and do a better job behind the basket and get to the foul line. There are some obvious areas we need to address, but it’s better to know that now rather than one month from now.”

On Saint Mary’s performance in the paint:
“I think they hurt us more on penetration down in the lane and dishing it out. They were getting follow-ups on the misses. Their 19 rebounds on offense really hurt us.”

On Oregon’s poor shooting percentage tonight:
“I never try to put restrictions on my shooters. There were a handful of bad shots, but the best thing for shooters is to encourage them to keep shooting.”

On the expected return of Ariel Thomas and Deanna Weaver:
“I think it is going to be weeks rather than days and I don’t have a number on the weeks. We’ll get it done with the group we have.”

Danielle Love – Jr., F

On building off of tonight’s game:
“We are really improving on defense. We took a big step tonight from the last two exhibition games. If we would have knocked our shots down we would have been okay. We were getting open people the ball, they just didn’t fall tonight.”
