Oregon - UConn Postgame Quotes
Dec. 31, 2012 - Matthew Knight Arena

Oregon Head Coach Paul Westhead

On tonight’s game...
“I was very proud of our team’s performance, and I’m normally not when we lose. Connecticut is obviously a very superlative team of the highest quality. We played in a very competitive fashion. It will serve us well going forward. After what we’ve done and this game, we are much more prepared to step up and perform.”

On moving onto Pac-12 play...
“Despite our record, I think we will be a team you have to deal with in the Pac-12. I look forward to it and so do they (Oregon players).”

On UConn’s full court press...

“It took a lot of our energy. We went flat during the last five minutes of the first half. You can’t be flat against teams like UConn.”

On the return of Janitah Iamleava and Liz Brenner...
“They will need a few games to get their bearings, but I’m happy that we have kids that can play.”

Freshman Jillian Alleyne

On her performance tonight...
“I knew I had to step up. I didn’t go in scared. I went in confident and had confidence in my teammates.”

On moving onto Pac-12 play...
“Pre-season is a warm up. We might be 2-10 and another team might be 12-0 but that doesn’t mean anything. Pac-12 is where it’s at. Let’s go out there and win.”

Freshman Devyn Galland

On tonight’s matchup...
“I was so excited. Who doesn’t want to play UConn? We had so much to prove, and even though we did lose, we came out strong which is what we aimed for.”

On the team dynamic with Liz Brenner and Janitah Iamleava...

“The extra bodies are nice. One by one we are getting the team back and coming together. Getting that consistent flow is going to make us that much stronger. We’re getting better at seeing what each others’ strengths are now that we’re getting the team back.”

Connecticut Head Coach Geno Auriemma

Opening Statement…
“I thought the first ten minutes the pace was not going the pace I wanted for us. We’re at our best when we’re moving up the floor quickly and moving the ball quickly. But after 10 minutes we really picked up the pace.”

On Caroline Doty…

“I’ve never seen Caroline pick it up like that. She’s overcome so much and it means so much to her. I feel great for her after that performance.”

On Oregon…
“They’re committed to a certain style of play, it’s how they practice and it’s how Coach Westhead coaches. They push the ball up the court well. They’re very aggressive. There competitiveness is impressive. I thought they were much more competitive than a lot of the team we’re already played this year.”
