EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon Soccer team has added Kyle Novak as a volunteer goalkeeper assistant coach, head coach Kat Mertz announced Tuesday.

A Eugene native, Novak has spent the past five years as a goalkeeper trainer and assistant coach for the Eugene Timbers Futbol Club, coaching keepers ages 10-18. He was added as the ODP Regional Training Center goalkeeper coach last fall, where he works with athletes between 11 and 13 and assists in selecting players for the ODP state team.

Novak has also coached for the River City Soccer Club, Spokane Soccer Club Shadow and Spokane Soccer Academy.

Novak began his collegiate career at San Jose State in before transferring to Whitworth the following year. While with the Pirates, Novak helped the team to two Northwest Conference titles, and was named the NWC Defensive Player of the Year and a team captain in 2012. Novak posted a 0.42 goals against average in 10 matches as a sophomore.

The Ducks begin the 2014 slate in an exhibition against Trinity Western Wednesday at 5 p.m.
