Ducks Announce Spring Soccer Schedule

EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Oregon women’s soccer coach Kat Mertz recently announced the 2013 spring exhibition schedule which features five matches – two at home and three away from Eugene.

The Ducks open the non-traditional season on Saturday, April 6 with a home match against Southern Oregon. That contest is set to begin at 4 p.m. (PT). Oregon will play its first road contest in Seattle against Pac-12 rival Washington in a match scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.

The following weekend the Ducks will host Oregon State with that match slated to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.

UO will play the final two exhibition contests away from Eugene.

The Ducks play a road match against Portland State at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, before closing the spring season with a neutral-site contest against UC Davis on Saturday, May 11. The UO-UC Davis match is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be played at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Ore.

The Ducks are in the first season under the direction of Mertz, who was named head coach in December. Mertz is the third coach in UO history since the program was returned to the varsity level in 1996. She has made nine NCAA Tournament appearances in five collegiate coaching stints covering 14 seasons. She also has extensive coaching experience with the U.S. Women's Youth National Team and the Olympic Development Program.

Oregon returns 23 players, including seven starters, from last year’s squad which finished the regular-season 8-10-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Pac-12 Conference action. Sophomore-to-be Mariah Powers was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman squad a year ago.

The Ducks also added six players as part of February’s National Signing Day. Those newcomers are: are Allie Cummins (Bend, Ore.), Lauren Holden (San Ramon, Calif.), ShayLee Miner (Junction City, Ore.), Emmy Rodriguez (Pleasanton, Calif.), Ashlee Schulz (Springfield, Ore.) and Caitlyn Wong (Sunnyvale, Calif.).
