LAST WEEKEND’S MATCHES
The Ducks faced a pair of ranked foes last week, losing a close one to No. 16 UCLA Friday night before battling to a 1-1 draw with No. 19 Southern California on Sunday.
Against the Bruins, Oregon took a 1-1 tie into the 88th minute before UCLA scored a pair of late goals (88th and 90th minute) en route to a 3-1 win. Senior midfielder Mercedes Walters registered UO’s only goal of the match, an equalizing score in the 68th minute.
That scoring sequence began when senior forward Rianna Mansfield played a ball in-behind the UCLA defense. Walters held off a Bruin defender before one-timing the bouncing pass to the near post past the goalkeeper.
In the 1-1 draw against USC, the Trojans had two penalty kick opportunities in the match, scoring on the second attempt which came in the 81st minute. The match went to extra time where Oregon out-shot USC by a margin of 6-2 during the two overtime periods.
