Huskies Hand Ducks Road Loss
Release Date: 10/22/2010
"We came out really well in the first half. We were really getting after them," head coach Tara Erickson said. The Ducks out-shot the Huskies 5-0 over the first 27 minutes of play.
Oregon out-shot UW in the match (13-12) including a 7-5 edge in first-half shots. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Bakke started UO early when her shot forced a save in the eighth minute of play. Sophomore midfielder Scout LIbke, senior forward Rianna Mansfield and senior forward Jen Stoltenberg each tallied shots during a three-minute stretch early in the first half (13:29-16:36).
UO junior goalkeeper Lindsay Parlee recorded three of her six saves as Washington countered with a trio of shots on goal within the 37th and 42nd minutes.
"It was a back and forth game and I thought we defended their set pieces very well – they were aggressive on those," Erickson said.
Stoltenberg came back with her only shot on goal in the last minute of the first half. "We created a lot of dangerous chances tonight," Erickson said.
UW took a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute when reserve forward Alex Webber scored her first goal of the season. As a Washington break-away entered the 18-yard box, Parlee saved a first shot attempted Webber. But after the rebound, a second Webber shot ricocheted off UO sophomore defender Lauren Thompson and into the net.
Midfielder Kellye Joswick put UW up 2-0 in the 81st minute, a goal assisted on a crossing pass by forward Mckenna Waitley.
Parlee had six saves in playing all 90 minutes for the Ducks. Stoltenberg had a team-high four shots and was one of four UO players to tally a shot on goal. Mansfield and Libke each had three shots.
The Huskies held the advantage in corner kicks (7-3) and shots on goal (8-4). Webber led the Huskies with five shots, all of which were on goal. Forward Sarah Martinez added three shots for UW.
Oregon (4-8-3, 0-3-1 Pac-10) plays at Washington State this Sunday with match-time scheduled for 12 (PT).
