EUGENE, Ore.- University of California's Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick used a hat trick to almost single handily defeat the University of Oregon (8-8-2, 3-5-1 Pac-12), 4-0 on Friday night at Pape' Field in Pac-12 women's soccer action.

The Bears (12-4-2, 5-2-2 Pac-12) tallied their first goal of the match only eight minutes into action after Fitzpatrick sent a shot back at freshman goalkeeper Abby Steele and while Steele had control of the shot, she just could not hold on to the ball and it slipped through her hands on the rainy night to give Cal the quick 1-0 lead.

Prior to the goal just two minutes before, freshman Shanelle Simien had a good look at the goal, but the Ducks continued to over kick their shots and it went high over the net.

Cal took two more shots in what turned out to be a competitive, tight first half, which closed with juniors Maddy Mercier and Nicole Bakke looking to notch an equalizer in the last five minutes of action.

Freshman Bri Pugh continued to keep trying to shoot through her scoring drought as she opened up the second half with a shot that tailed to the right of the Duck goal.

Fitzpatrick took a shot at 47:56 that Steele was able to save, but at the 51:50 mark Fitzpatrick drew Steele out of the goal and sent a shot back from 10 yards out that was more convincing than her first goal of the night.

Her teammate Lauren Battung got in on the scoring action minutes later after Fitzpatrick dished the ball off to her and on the right side of the net, she noticed Steele was out of the net again and drilled the ball into the empty net to give the Bears a 3-0 lead .

UO's most promising look of the night once again came from Pugh as she had her defender beat at 64:10, but Emily Kruger was able to shift her feet and get to the ball.

Fitzpatrick completed her hat trick at the 69:57 minute mark and shut the door on Oregon's chance to get back into the match.

While Cal edged Oregon in corner kicks, 5-4, every other category (shots-9; fouls-7; saves-4) was knotted up.

Steele (3-8-2) played all but 14 minutes of the match in the loss as senior Lindsay Parlee relieved her at the 13:37 mark. Kruger (10-4-2) was credited with the win and was relieved as well by Kathleen Messinger.

Oregon returns for the final match at Pape' Field on Sunday against #1 Stanford on Sunday, which is Senior Day, at 1 p.m. With Stanford's 2-1 victory over Oregon State tonight, they clinched the Pac-12 crown.
