Ducks Add Six Players as Part of National Signing Day

EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Oregon women’s soccer coach Kat Mertz announced the addition of six prep standouts as part of National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Joining the Ducks for the 2013 season are Allie Cummins (Bend, Ore.), Lauren Holden (San Ramon, Calif.), ShayLee Miner (Junction City, Ore.), Emmy Rodriguez (Pleasanton, Calif.), Ashlee Schulz (Springfield, Ore.) and Caitlyn Wong (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

The recruiting class features one goalkeeper, one forward and four players who can swing between defender and midfielder. Three of the players are in-state products, while another three come from Northern California.

Holden is an accomplished goalkeeper at the prep, club and Olympic Development Program level. Miner will add to the Ducks’ offensive firepower from her attacking forward position. UO filled some key slots at defender and midfielder with the addition of Cummins, Rodriguez, Schulz and Wong.

Mertz, in her first year as coach at UO, inherits a team that returns seven starters and 22 total players from the 2012 squad which went 8-10-2 overall and 3-7-1 in Pac-12 Conference play.

High School: A team captain for Mountain View High ... a two-time first team all-state selection (2011 and 2012) ... Named second team all-state as a sophomore in 2010 ... A team MVP in her sophomore season ... Named team’s defensive MVP in her freshman and senior seasons ... Also an honorable mention Intermountain Conference selection as a freshman.

I was very impressed with the dedication to improving athletes’ grades and keeping them on track academically. I can take advantage of the academic resources provided at UO to balance grades and sports which is very important to me.”

The university was beautiful and what I imagined college to be. After visiting several times and seeing the amazing facilities that are available to the student-athletes, I knew that I wanted to play for Oregon.”
