EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women’s soccer team’s singing class grew to 11 on Thursday as head coach Kat Mertz announced the signing of Marlo Sweatman, a transfer from Florida State. The 5-foot-8 midfielder will be eligible to compete for the Ducks as a sophomore next season.
Sweatman will bring with her experience competing at the highest levels of both collegiate and international soccer. The Herndon, Va., native lettered for a Florida State side that won 22 games last season and reached the finals of the 2013 Women’s College Cup. Sweatman was also the captain of the Jamaican U-20 National Team in 2012, starting in every match during the calendar season.
Oregon’s signing class now consists of 11 players, featuring five defenders, four midfielders, a forward and a goalkeeper.
The Ducks open their spring exhibition schedule next week, opening against Portland on April 5. Start time is set for 2 p.m. (PST) in Beaverton, Ore.

About Sweatman: Will be eligible to play next season as a sophomore after opening her collegiate career with Florida State … appeared in six matches in her rookie season as the Seminoles posted a 22-2-3 record and reached the finals of the 2013 Women’s College Cup … made her collegiate debut against Auburn, tallying a season-high 14 minutes … saw action vs. Miami and Pittsburg in ACC competition … played in two NCAA Tournament games (South Alabama, Colorado) … member of the Jamaican U-20 National Team, serving as a starter and captain in the midfield in every match in 2012 … played in the CONCACAF U-20 World Cup qualifier … scored twice for the Jamaican squad in the Caribbean Cup … called into camp with the U-18 U.S. National Team in 2012 … was a four-time MVP an All-ISL first team selection and a three-time captain of her Flint Hill High School team … led high school team in assists and scoring in all four years … member of the McLean ECNL ’94 club team … named to the All-Tournament team at Disney and PDA … daughter of Edward and Beverly Sweatman .. has an older sister and two older brothers.
