EUGENE, Ore. – The eighth annual Bill Dellinger Invitational and a first-ever trip to Boston highlight the 2013 University of Oregon cross country schedule, announced Thursday by head coach Robert Johnson.
“This is an exciting schedule that will give us the opportunity to compete in some new places while still being able to showcase our teams at home with the Bill Dellinger Invitational,” said Johnson.
Oregon will open the year at the PSU Viking Classic on Sept. 6 in Portland, Ore. There, the Ducks will compete in scored dual meets with Portland and Portland State, as well as the Oregon State women.
On Sept. 27, the teams will head to the Boston College Invitational for the first time ever.
“Not only is the Boston meet going to be a new challenge for us, but with our connections to the Boston area, it is a good way to show our support for the running community in New England,” said Johnson.
The Ducks have a handful of runners with ties to the Northeast. For the women, junior Megan Patrignelli is from Monroe, N.Y., while and sophomore Abbey Leonardi is from Kennebunkport, Maine. The men have three runners from New Jersey – junior Jeramy Elkaim, freshman Edward Cheserek and senior Brett Johnson.
Oregon associate head coach Andy Powell and assistant coach Maurica Powell are also from the Boston area.
Oregon’s lone home appearance will be the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Oct. 5 at Springfield Country Club.
The Ducks wrap up the regular season with a trip to the NCAA Pre-Nationals Oct. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The championship season begins with the Pac-12 meet hosted by Colorado on Nov. 2.
The NCAA West Regional meet will be Nov. 15 in Sacramento, Calif., with the NCAA Championships held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The women, who won the NCAA title for the first time in 25 years last season, return six letterwinners for the 2013 season, while the men have 12 returning lettermen.
