EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will open the 2013 season Friday at the PSU Viking Classic at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Ore. Blue Lake Park is located approximately 13 miles east of downtown Portland between Interstate 84 and the Columbia River.

Admission to the race is free, however there is a $5 charge for parking ($7 for vans).

The men will open the event with a four-mile race at 5:45 p.m., followed by the women’s three-mile race at 6:30 p.m.

The third-ranked Duck women, who won the 2012 NCAA title, but graduated three members off that championship squad, will face Oregon State, Portland and Portland State.

The No. 12 Men of Oregon will square off against eighth-ranked Portland and Portland State.

Both races will be scored as dual meets, as opposed to the invitational scoring format.

The men will send a veteran roster to the line, including senior all-American Parker Stinson, as well as senior Tim Costin, juniors Jeramy Elkaim, Ryan Pickering, Cole Watson and Daniel Winn, and sophomores Chris Brewer and Matthew Melancon.

The women will run two members of their 2012 NCAA championship squad, senior Sarah Penney and sophomore Abbey Leonardi. Junior Megan Patrignelli will also run for the Ducks, as will sophomore Molly Grabill, who is coming off a redshirt season.

Four women will be making their debuts for the women: sophomore Ally Aschbacher, redshirt freshmen Skylar Evans and Ashley Maton, and junior Mia Elbon, who is a transfer from Belmont.

This will be the first regular season cross country meet hosted by Portland State since becoming a Division I program in 1996. The Vikings hosted the 2008 Big Sky Championships at Blue Lake Park, which was also the site of the 2003 NCAA West Regional hosted by Portland.
