Lance Deal Named to USATF Staff for IAAF World Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - Oregon's Lance Deal has been named to the U.S. Track and Field staff for the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow.

Deal, a former throws coach for the Ducks and now director of track & field venues and program support, is in his 10th year as Oregon. He will serve as the assistant coach for women's throws for Team USA.

Beth Alford-Sullivan of Penn State and Mike Holloway of the University of Florida have been tapped to lead Team USA as the women's and men's head coaches at the 14th IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, August 10-18, 2013, USA Track & Field announced Thursday.

At the most recent World Outdoor Championships in 2011 in Daegu, South Korea, Team USA recorded its second-highest World Outdoor medal total at 25 medals. Team USA maintained its status as the world's No. 1 track & field team by placing atop the medal count for most medals overall and most golds with 12.

Named as assistant coaches for the women's staff for Team USA were: Latanya Sheffield (sprints/hurdles); Delethea Quarles (jumps/combined events); Deal (throws) and Juli Benson (distance).

Names as assistant coaches for the men's staff were: Curtis Frye (sprints/hurdles), Stephen Cooksey (jumps/combined events), Brian Blutreich (throws) and Troy Engle (distance).
